Andrea Asch

Andrea Asch leads the environmental program for Ben & Jerry’s Homemade, Inc., the Vermont-based ice cream manufacturer as widely recognized for its socially and environmentally conscious business practices as for its innovative ice cream flavors.
She has been responsible for guiding Ben & Jerry's environmental well-being since the company first created the position in 1992. Her first task back then, of course, was to help the company figure out what "environmental well-being" really meant; since then, she's fostered a wide range of environmental initiatives and projects ranging from waste minimization programs at the manufacturing plants to major packaging innovation endeavors, global climate change campaigns and the development of indicators of sustainable agriculture for dairy farmers. Through Ben & Jerry’s parent company, Unilever, she has been involved in the global Sustainable Agriculture program, focusing on dairy farming.
Ms. Asch passion for sustainable agriculture spreads into her role as a member of the Board of Director for the Intervale Center, a non-profit organization based in Burlington, Vermont whose mission is to develop farm-and land-based enterprises that generate economic and social opportunity while protecting natural resources
In addition, Ms. Asch has been a member of the employee-led Board of the Ben & Jerry’s Foundation, whose mission is to support and encourage organizations that are working towards eliminating the underlying causes of environmental and social problems.
Ms. Asch holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental conservation and environmental education from the University of New Hampshire and a master’s degree in environmental science and hazardous waste management from Indiana University.

Charles J. “Chuck” Bennett, PhD

Dr. Bennett was appointed to the new position of Vice President, Earth & Community Care, at Aveda Corporation in April 2007. There he is responsible for the overall direction of the company’s environmental and community outreach. Aveda is a well recognized leader in environmental sustainability through its products and operations. Dr. Bennett’s role will be to help the Aveda Team – consisting of the company and its affiliated Network of salons and retail outlets – enhance that commitment and take it to new levels of success as the business expands globally, and to extend and expand the company’s outreach to communities throughout its value chain from indigenous communities in Australia, Africa and South America to its consumers.
Prior to joining Aveda Dr. Bennett was a Senior Research Associate at The Conference Board since 2001. There he focused on sustainability and corporate citizenship issues and authored or coauthored numerous Conference Board publications, including The New Corporate Citizenship, The Road to Sustainability: Business’ First Steps, The Measure of Success: Evaluating Corporate Citizenship Performance, Expanding the Investment Frontier and A Roadmap for Strategic Energy Planning and Management . Additional publications include reports on global CEO perspectives on citizenship performance, the World Summit on Sustainable Development, and best practices in workplace health and safety management, His most recent report is Managing for a Carbon-Concerned Future: A Decision-Making Framework. Dr. Bennett also coordinated The Conference Board’s council program for executive networking among senior environment, health and safety officers.
At Nabisco from 1993 – 2001 he served as senior environmental and safety director and led the development of global environmental and safety management systems and performance tracking metrics. Between 1988 and 1993, as director of environmental affairs for Adolph Coors Company, Dr. Bennett helped to develop environmental policy for the state of Colorado through gubernatorial appointments and public-private partnerships. As a consultant, he has advised on the environmental aspects of major mining and industrial developments throughout the central and western United States. A graduate of Middlebury College, Dr. Bennett completed graduate degrees in geography at Syracuse University, taught at several colleges, and served on the faculty of the State University of New York at Geneseo.

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an independent not-for-profit organisation aiming to create a lasting relationship between shareholders and corporations regarding the implications for shareholder value and commercial operations presented by climate change. Its goal is to facilitate a dialogue, supported by quality information, from which a rational response to climate change will emerge.
Prior to joining CDP, Brittany worked with International Business Initiatives, specializing in Integrated Coastal Management Planning. Brittany has worked with Environmental Defense in their Corporate Partnerships Program, where she contributed to the first climate neutral fleet management program in North America. Brittany also consulted for the International Climate and Air Program with Environmental Defense, analyzing the ‘climate’ of US industry towards an international Cap-and-Trade program. In addition, Brittany spent over five years in the Healthcare industry as a Territory Business Manager.
Brittany holds a BS from Syracuse University and a Masters Degree in Climate and Society from Columbia University.

Betsy Cohen

Betsy Cohen is Nestlé’s Sustainability Champion, working internally throughout Nestlé operating companies as well as with key retailers across all Nestlé products. These include brands as diverse as Stouffers frozen meals to Nestlé Waters and Nestlé confections. In addition, she is Vice President of Nestlé Purina’s veterinary business. Betsy was a co-founder of Nestlé Purina’s Child Development Center and is on its Board of Directors.
Betsy graduated from Wellesley College. She received her M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School. She was a recipient of the St. Louis Business Journal’s Most Influential Business Women award in 1999. Betsy is Nestlé Purina’s Board Member for the St. Louis United Way. She is on Washington University’s Sam Fox School of Arts and Architecture’s National Council and at St. Louis University’s Cook School of Business she sits on the Dean’s Advisory Council.

Paul Comey

Paul Comey is Vice President of Environmental Affairs for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. He is pursuing the challenge of helping the company become an environmental leader, transitioning our Environmental Management System (EMS) to a continuing process that achieves ISO 14001 certification. Prior to becoming VP of Environmental Affairs, Paul was Vice President of Facilities for GMCR, responsible for real estate leases, design, constructions, maintenance, telecommunications and security systems. He was also responsible for Process Engineering including all equipment design, layout purchasing, installation and maintenance.
Prior to joining GMCR in 1993, Paul founded and managed Baseline Solutions, a consulting company focused on bottom line improvements in manufacturing operations, pollution compliance, equipment design and process layout. During this time, GMCR was a major client for Baseline Solutions. Paul graduated from Boston State College with a major in sociology and a minor in education. After teaching for four years he was awarded a fellowship to Fitchburg State College, earning an ME.

Tom Cushing

Tom Cushing is a Vice President of Membership and Business Development with the Chicago Climate Exchange, the world's first and North America's only active, voluntary, legally binding integrated trading system to reduce emissions of all six greenhouse gases, with offset projects in North America and worldwide.
Before joining CCX, Mr. Cushing practiced as a civil trial attorney in Cook County, Illinois, from 1988 to 2006. In those years he recorded dozens of verdicts and appeals and distinguished himself in the legal community. He was invited to join the Chicago Society of Trial Lawyers, The American Board of Trial Advocates and Loyola University School of Law’s Circle of Advocates. He also taught as an adjunct professor at the Loyola University School of Law, was an invited instructor at DePaul Law School and the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and was an invited speaker for various bar groups. Mr. Cushing adjusted the focus of his advocacy toward the issue of global climate change when he joined the Chicago Climate Exchange in 2006. He is a Chicago native.
Mr. Cushing has been a lifelong teacher, starting his professional career teaching sixth grade for two years. He earned his JD degree from Loyola University School of Law, and his BA from the University of Notre Dame.

Wayne S. Evans

Wayne is currently the Acting Vice President of Procurement at DHL, the global market leader of the international express and logistics industry. His career in procurement spans more than 20 years in which he has held senior level procurement positions at Lockheed Martin, Unisys, and CBS. In addition he was a Senior Manager for a “Big Five” consulting firm where he performed supply chain consulting services for industry leaders such as Boeing, Carnival Cruise Lines, Federal Express and BP. Wayne has encountered unique experiences and challenges in his career from negotiating land use rights with an Indian Chief to moving tons of material across the frozen tundra. He has been published by the Procurement Strategy Council and is currently working on a book that provides the customers perspective on selling.

Ellen Feeney has served both corporations and non-profit organizations in marketing, PR, employee relations, investor relations and financial development. Ellen has long been driven by a passion for corporate social responsibility (CSR), and an enduring faith in the power of business to change the world for the better. To that end, she is a great believer in mutually beneficial partnerships between businesses and non-profits.
Having experienced first-hand many successes in the realm of cause-related marketing, Ellen believes that aligning business and NGO’s under a common umbrella is a powerful tool both affect social change and to build brand equity. Ellen served on the BSR (Business for Social Responsibility) Colorado Network board beginning in 1996, and was a founding member of P3 Colorado (People, Planet, Profit) in 2000.
In her current role as Vice-President of Responsible Livelihood for WhiteWave Foods, Ellen oversees the organization’s corporate sustainability program. Her responsibilities include environmental initiatives, community involvement efforts, non-profit alliances and VIA, WhiteWave’s values-in-action program to promote employee volunteerism.

Bjorn is an economist and analyst with 12+ years experience in the private and non-profit sector. As Managing Director of 3C The Carbon Credit Company LLC based in Washington DC, he leads US activities for the globally expanding 3C Group headquartered near Frankfurt, Germany. The 3C Group is a leading carbon asset management group. Among others, 3C provides carbon advisory services for companies and institutions about the issues involved in climate neutral services, emissions trading, carbon fund investments and its markets. Before starting 3C LLC, Bjorn was with The Climate Trust, a leading offset provider from Portland, Oregon. As Business Development Manager he implemented a growth strategy to expand their climate neutral services and risk mitigation advisory services nationwide leading to new multi-million dollar offset investments. Before joining the Trust in September 2005, he was Key Account Manager at 500PPM, a German emission trading and consulting company with offices in Washington DC, Karlsruhe and Hanover. His responsibilities included to market, develop and operate business models that utilize climatic protection in marketing and in sustainable management. His international experience includes economic and environmental research and project management in Kenya and Trinidad & Tobago. He serves for the Washington DC chapter of the Society for International Development as chair for the Energy and Infrastructure Workgroup and he is committee member of the Corporate Social Responsibility Advisory Board of The Association for Corporate Travel Executives. Bjorn holds a graduate degree in Business Economics and Asset Management from Ratingen-Hoesel Boarding School, Germany and the Chamber of Commerce Cologne, Germany and a Master of Science in International Management from Maastricht University, The Netherlands.

Brian Glazebrook

Brian Glazebrook is Manager of Supply Chain Social Responsibility at Cisco Systems, Inc. He joined Cisco in 2006 to develop and lead the company’s program managing environmental, labor, health, safety and ethical performance of its suppliers. In this role, Brian is Cisco’s representative in the Electronic Industry Code of Conduct (EICC) and Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) industry organizations.
Prior to joining Cisco, Brian spent over 10 years as a management consultant focusing on corporate sustainability issues. He is a recognized expert on Life Cycle Assessment and has worked with a number of Fortune 500 firms on design for environment, life-cycle management, green buildings, climate change and sustainability reporting projects. He was involved in the development of the first draft of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and has supported the U.S. and Canadian governments in developing standards for evaluating the environmental footprint of “green” projects and products.
Brian has a Master of Arts Degree in Public Policy and a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Science from Indiana University.

Her previous work experience includes research for The US Department of Energy at Argonne National Laboratory’s Environmental Research Division and environmental engineering for URS Corporation. She joined The Climate Group as an intern while completing her MA at Columbia University.

Olivia Hartridge

Olivia Hartridge has a BA (Hons) in politics, philosophy and economics from Balliol College, Oxford and an MSc in environmental economics from University College London. She started working in climate change in 2000 for the UK Government where she co-wrote the rules and ran the auction for the UK emissions trading scheme - the first traded carbon market.
In 2003, Olivia joined the European Commission to work on implementing the EU emissions trading scheme. Here, she initially concentrated on finalising the legislation itself, overseeing and drafting its daughter legislation (monitoring and reporting guidelines and registries regulation), assessing national allocation plans, and managing the setup of the EU electronic registries system across 25 countries. She then became responsible for relations with developed countries on climate change, and finally worked on the legislative proposal to bring international aviation into the EU scheme.
In 2007, Olivia joined Morgan Stanley as an originator on the carbon trading desk. Here, she is responsible for the recently announced “carbon bank” – the first fully-integrated carbon auditing and offsetting service based on the highest international standards.

Tim Higgs is an environmental engineer with Intel’s corporate environmental organization. He received his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Michigan State University in 1983 and is a registered professional engineer (chemical) in the State of Arizona. Tim has been with Intel for 23 years in a variety of environmental positions at the site and worldwide levels, and has extensive experience in matters related to air permitting, air emissions control, energy efficiency and climate change.

Timothy Juliani

Timothy Juliani is the Markets and Business Strategy Fellow at the Pew Center on Global Climate Change. He works with the Center's Business Environmental Leadership Council (BELC), a group of 44 largely Fortune 500 corporations that have partnered with the Pew Center to address issues related to climate change. He also engages in Pew Center analytic work on climate-related markets and investment issues. Mr. Juliani first came to the Pew Center in June 2005, but spent the last 6 months of 2006 working to develop a voluntary climate partnership program at the U.S. EPA. He rejoined the Pew Center in January 2007.
In the two years prior to first joining the Pew Center, Mr. Juliani pursued a master’s degree in International Economics, Energy and Environment at The Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D.C. During that time, he also worked as an independent consultant, writing an analysis of energy cooperation within ASEAN for USAID and the SARI-Energy program. Mr. Juliani is also currently writing the official institutional history of Johns Hopkins SAIS.
Before his graduate work at SAIS, Mr. Juliani worked for several years in the non-profit community in Seattle. In addition to his M.A. from Johns Hopkins, he completed a post-baccalaureate program at the University of Washington, and graduated with a B.A. in Religion, magna cum laude with Highest Honors, and a minor in Medieval History from Middlebury College in Vermont.

Edward A. Klein

Edward A. Klein is Vice President, Environmental Affairs, for Tetra Pak, Inc. where he is responsible for US environmental matters. He also leads Tetra Pak's environmental efforts in North America. Ed first became involved in sustainability in 2000 and has been a strong advocate since then. He joined Tetra Pak in May of 1989
Before joining Tetra Pak, he worked for the United States Government. He directed the Environmental Protection Agency's National strategy on solid waste, entitled "The Solid Waste Dilemma; An Agenda For Action", and managed the Division which reviews new chemicals and regulates toxic substances such as PCB's, asbestos and CFC's. He was the Special Assistant to the Occupational Safety and Health's (OSHA) chief lawyer, where he managed numerous regulatory hearings and rules, including OSHA's National Cancer Policy. He also was a trial attorney for the National Labor Relations Board.
He is a graduate of Penn State University and New York Law School.

Mike Mason

Mike Mason graduated as a mining engineer and after careers as a production engineer and in the business world, he gained an MBA at Cranfield and later a Masters in Environmental Change and Management at Oxford University.
Since then he has dedicated his life to moving us all towards a low carbon world.
He set up Climate Care in 1997 pre Kyoto and since then it has become a market leader in the origination, development and retail of voluntary and compliance carbon offsets, pioneering methodologies and project standards in a number of areas and supplying everyone from consumers to some of the world’s largest brands. Mike also founded Biojoule – Climate Care’s sister company developing radically new biomass technologies.

Carmel McQuaid is a Managing Consultant in PA’s Manufacturing Industries Practice, based in one of PA's technology centres in Cambridge (UK). Carmel is leading PA’s thinking in sustainability, helping companies turn 'green into gold' by using it as a competitive lever rather than simply being compliant.
In particular, she focuses on the consumer products sector and development of green products and packaging, sustainable supply chains and the organizational changes required to live the sustainability message.She is currently working closely with leading Consumer Product companies in Europe and the US in the areas of sustainability strategies, product carbon footprints and converting sustainable packaging policies into reality.
Carmel is a chemical engineer by background having previously worked for National Starch and Chemical (ICI) in a production and supply chain roles prior to consultancy.

Erin Meezan is the Director of Sustainable Development for Interface. In this capacity she provides technical assistance and policy support to Interface’s global business units on a range of sustainability issues. She develops Interface’s external partnerships with environmental stakeholders on climate change and renewable energy issues, and advises Interface’s internal Sustainability Council as Chair of renewable energy front. She manages Interface’s corporate GHG Inventory and their carbon offset portfolio to meet corporate and product climate neutral goals. She has a Masters Degree in Environmental Policy and a Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School.

Ruchi Misra

Ruchi Misra is currently a manager in BSR’s Advisory Services practice where she leads strategy and supply chain work for clients in the consumer product, food & agricultural and the financial services sectors.
Currently, Ruchi leads two BSR working groups that focus on environmental impacts in the supply chain. The first group is the Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG), a multi-sector collaboration focused on measuring and managing carbon footprints in the transportation of manufactured goods. The second is the Apparel Water Quality Working Group (AWQWG), which manages water quality effluent from mills/laundries around the world. Additionally, she develops and implements environmental strategies for multinational companies.
Prior to BSR, Ruchi was a consultant at Freeman & Co., a boutique in New York that focused on mergers & acquisitions and management consulting for financial services clientele. She was also a financial analyst in Citigroup’s Equity Capital Markets Group in New York and Hong Kong, where she issued equity and equity-linked securities for media and financial services companies.
Ruchi holds a Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Science from the University Of Michigan, where she focused on an integrated curriculum between business and corporate social responsibility. During her graduate program, she contributed to Altria’s strategy in sustainable agriculture and responsible marketing; worked for Ben & Jerry’s developing a sustainable agriculture assessment tool; and co-authored a case study published in C.K. Prahalad’s, The Fortune at the Bottom of the Pyramid (2004). Ruchi also has a B.A. in Environmental Science from Barnard College of Columbia University in New York.

Dave Newman

Dave Newman, a twenty three-year veteran of Nike, is the manager of global climate and energy, designing various strategies for environmental initiatives within global supply chain. He recently coordinated Nike's global inbound logistics emissions footprint, which was articulated in the World Wildlife Fund Climate Savers Program.
Dave has a B.S. in Business and has held various positions in finance and global logistics functions. Dave is also serving as member of advisory boards within sustainability and transportation.

He is responsible for overseeing all of BSR’s consulting work, which spans several industry groups, including food and agriculture, consumer products, energy and extractives, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology. Eric is also closely involved with major ongoing projects involving key CSR issues, including the design of an environmental footprint for a large multinational corporation.
Prior to joining BSR, Eric was Vice President at the Natural Step, where he lead the development and execution of its advisory services work, including the creation of a business case for an integrated CSR strategy with a major fast food company and the development of an approach for prioritizing a major shoe manufacturer’s CSR activities. Prior to his work at the Natural Step, Eric was Vice President of The Boston Consulting Group and its West Coast practice leader.
Eric has a Masters in Philosophy in Russian and East European Studies from Oxford University, and a B.A. in Chemistry and Russian from Macalester College.
Eric joined BSR in January 2005 with fifteen years of work in the consulting field, including significant experience in financial services. Eric leads BSR’s growing advisory services practice delivering consultation on the design of successful CSR strategies, and the integration of those strategies into core business practices at BSR’s member companies and other clients.
Most recently Eric served as Vice President, Advisory Services, with The Natural Step in San Francisco, where he led that organization’s work to deliver advice and counsel to a broad range of companies on sustainability matters. Prior to that he served as a Vice President in the Financial Services Practice at the Boston Consulting Group, and was a Partner and Founding Member of the Mitchell Madison Group, a global financial services consultancy focused on strategic sourcing and supply chain management.

Ben Packard serves as Director of Environmental Affairs for Starbucks Coffee Company based in Seattle, WA. Ben received his MBA & Certificate in Environmental Management from the University of Washington in 1998.
Ben is responsible for designing the strategy and developing programs in support of the Company’s commitment to environmental leadership. Ben was part of the original Corporate Social Responsibility team at Starbucks when formed in 1999. Using the Natural Step framework for sustainability, Ben was responsible for completing an environmental footprint analysis for the Company in 2001. From the footprint analysis, Starbucks has established focus areas and performance metrics that are woven into the strategic planning process. Ben lead a sub-group of this Footprint team to perform the company’s first climate inventory in 2004.
In January 2000 Ben received a Fellowship from the Environmental Leadership Program, an organization seeking to transform public understanding of environmental issues by training and supporting a network of visionary, action-oriented emerging leaders. Ben was named Starbucks “Leader of the Year” for 2002 for his work on the Environmental Footprint Project.

Buddy has worked for the US Environmental Protection Agency for eleven years as part of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality, within the Office of Air and Radiation. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory, Buddy is the Chief Shipper Coordinator for the SmartWay Transport Partnership. Buddy is part of the EPA team who worked with industry leaders to develop and implement this innovative Partnership just three years ago. Prior to SmartWay, Buddy worked with EPA to implement vehicle emission testing programs throughout the US. Before joining the EPA, Buddy served in the US Peace Corps as a Community Development Specialist in Mali, West Africa. His education background includes a B.A. in International Relations from The Ohio State University and graduate studies in Environmental and Natural Resource Policy at Michigan State University.

Mr. Stangis (Dave) is Intel Corporation’s Director of Corporate Responsibility. He works across Intel business units (EHS, Legal, govt. affairs, Human Resources, etc) to coordinate strategy in line with external Social Responsibility/Sustainability drivers. He manages Intel’s relationship with the social investment universe, coordinates public affairs and external engagement in the area of Corporate Responsibility.
Mr. Stangis (Dave) manages production of Intel’s Corporate Responsibility Report and monitors and responds to emerging issues that may affect the company’s reputation. He is a member of Intel’s Ethics and Compliance Oversight Committee and facilitates the Company’s Corporate Responsibility Management Review Committee. He also leads Intel’s Community Solutions Group – a group that seeks to enhance communities worldwide through innovative technology applications.
Mr. Stangis has been with Intel for 10 years and held a range of EHS and policy positions prior to Intel. Prior to his current assignment, he served as Intel's EHS External Affairs Manager and produced Intel’s Environmental, Health and Safety performance report. Mr. Stangis earned his MBA from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science (MS) in Occupational and Environmental Health from Wayne State University in Detroit.

Kyle Tanger

Kyle Tanger manages numerous GHG and energy projects with Fortune 500, Federal, University, and Non-Profit clients. He brings significant greenhouse gas estimation experience to Clear Carbon Consulting, having managed the GHG inventory efforts of multiple clients with combined emissions totaling in excess of 60 million metric tons CO2eq. Mr. Tanger has extensive product carbon supply chain analysis experience, having consulted on the carbon footprint analyses for multiple consumer products. In addition, he has supported the efforts of a large retailer to develop its product-based carbon scorecard and facilitate meetings with several pilot product categories. Mr. Tanger served as a peer reviewer for the World Resources Institute and World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Greenhouse Gas Protocol, contributed extensive written comments to multiple guidance documents for GHG registries, and has presented at international GHG conferences. He has worked extensively to create tools that measure financial performance of climate mitigation strategies and offset portfolios. Mr. Tanger also has managed corporate GHG and sustainability information management projects, performed feasibility studies and designed blueprints for system development.

Mark C. Trexler, Director of EcoSecurities Global Consulting Services, was until recently president of Trexler Climate + Energy Services, Inc. (TC+ES), an energy and environmental consulting firm founded in 1991 and specializing in the provision of policy, strategic, and project-related climate change services to the private sector. As Director of EcoSecurities Global Consulting Services, Dr. Trexler oversees a team of more than 20 climate change and project experts in Portland, Oxford, and The Hague. The team is involved in corporate strategic planning, GHG market forecasting, project development for voluntary and Kyoto markets, and the development of emissions trading programs. Private-sector clients have included global energy companies such as Chevron, PacifiCorp, Southern California Edison, TransAlta, AES Corp., J-Power, and Statoil, and consumer products companies such as Nike and Stonyfield Farm. Dr. Trexler has also worked with national and international groups and agencies including The Nature Conservancy, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Global Environment Facility. Dr. Trexler has published extensively on issues related to climate change mitigation, has served as a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and is a member of the editorial board of Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies, a leading climate journal. Prior to establishing TC+ES, Dr. Trexler was with the World Resources Institute in Washington, DC, where he managed technical analysis of the first carbon mitigation projects pursued by U.S. companies. He also has worked extensively on energy policy issues such as power plant siting, technology R&D policy, and efficiency standards. Dr. Trexler earned his M.P.P. in 1982 and his PhD in 1990 from the Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley
